Why SSL Matters for SEO

Google has used HTTPS as a ranking signal since 2014. Sites without a valid SSL certificate are flagged as "Not Secure" in Chrome, which dramatically increases bounce rate. An expired or misconfigured SSL can cause your entire site to become inaccessible.

Our checker verifies the certificate is valid, checks the expiry date, confirms HTTP redirects to HTTPS, and checks for HSTS headers — giving you a complete security picture in seconds.

Understanding SSL Grades

A 90+ days left, valid cert, HTTPS redirect, HSTS
B 90+ days, valid cert, HTTPS redirect
C 31–90 days remaining — renew soon
D 15–30 days — urgent renewal needed
F Expired, invalid, or no SSL at all

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the SSL grade mean?+
Our SSL grade is based on certificate validity (days remaining), HTTPS redirect, and presence of HSTS headers. Grade A means everything is configured correctly. Grade F means the certificate is expired or missing.
What is HSTS?+
HTTP Strict Transport Security (HSTS) is a header that tells browsers to always use HTTPS for your domain, even if the user types http://. It prevents downgrade attacks and cookie hijacking. Sites with HSTS get a small SEO boost.
How often should I check my SSL certificate?+
Check monthly, or set a calendar reminder 30 days before your certificate expires. Most free certificates (like Let's Encrypt) expire every 90 days. Paid certificates typically last 1–2 years.
Why is my site showing "Not Secure" even with a valid certificate?+
Usually because HTTP is not redirecting to HTTPS, or the page contains mixed content (HTTP resources on an HTTPS page). Our checker shows whether the HTTP→HTTPS redirect is correctly configured.
