How the Broken Link Checker Works
Our crawler starts at the URL you provide and follows internal links using a breadth-first search algorithm, visiting up to 200 pages. For every link found on each page — both internal and external — it sends an HTTP HEAD request to check whether the destination is reachable. If a link returns a 404 (Not Found), 410 (Gone), or 500 (Server Error) response, it's recorded as a broken link along with the anchor text and the page it was found on.
Our smart filtering system ignores social share links, login pages, file downloads, and other URLs that commonly return false positives due to server configuration or bot detection. The result is a clean, accurate report you can act on immediately.
